In order to better advise the WRLC on a corporate identity that would be a good match for the organization, we first researched the industry in general -- other organizations whose purposes relate to those of the WRLC. We looked at other library systems, academic consortia, and university Web sites. Because the WRLC serves the broader purpose of disseminating information digitally, we also looked at companies in the business of managing, sharing, and processing data -- including software companies, data management firms, and search engines. We studied the relationships between identity and company, and then decided which characteristics we wanted the WRLC logo to reference.
